Benefits of Web Standards

No one buys a car without first having a good idea of what's under the hood. The same principle should apply to web development, which is why we feel it is important for clients to understand why we code websites using web standards.

Web standards are a simple set of guidelines that some developers use. Think of coding a website with standards as "going the extra mile" to guarantee that your site can realize all of the following benefits . . .

For further reading, Wikipedia also has some nice things to say about web standards.

Benefits of Standards Q & A:

Who else is using web standards?

Web companies like Google and Yahoo are not the only ones advocating the use of web standards. ESPN, Southwest Airlines and The New York Times are just a few of the many major websites innovating with web standards.

Is this whole web standards thing just a fad?

We don't think so, for two reasons. First, there is no down side; it's accessible, easy to update and flexible. Secondly, HTML and CSS are both very well supported now, and compliment most any web development language.

Does developing a website this way cost more?

While the code is different, it really does not take much longer to create a website the right way. So the short answer is no, it should not have an impact on price although you are getting a much more advanced site "under the hood".
