Flyering might seem old school in 2025—but does it still work to get new cleaning clients?
The answer is yes… but only if you do it right.
If you’ve ever printed a few hundred flyers, dropped them through nearby letterboxes, and waited for the phone to ring—only to get zero calls—you’re not alone. That’s the wrong way to approach it.
So in today’s newsletter, let’s break down how to make flyer marketing actually work for your cleaning business.
Flyers don’t work like Google Ads. You won’t get immediate results. Instead, think of them like planting seeds. Many people who receive your flyer won’t need a cleaner right now—but when they do, you want them to remember you.
That only happens if:
You flyer the same area multiple times
You build trust through repetition
Your brand becomes familiar before they’re ready to buy
One of the biggest mistakes people make is doing a single flyer drop in a neighborhood and expecting results.
Here’s the smarter strategy:
Choose a single area or ZIP code
Flyer it three times over a 4–6 month period
Leave 2–3 months between drops
This keeps your business top-of-mind when people start thinking about hiring a cleaner.
Sending 100 flyers won’t move the needle. You should aim for:
At least 1,000 flyers per version
Ideally 3,000 flyers spread across 3 drops
Use Canva to create or customize flyer templates easily
Remember: it’s a numbers game. Even with a strong message and design, your response rate might be around 1%.
So:
1,000 flyers = about 10 responses
3,000 flyers = about 30 responses
This is key.
Don’t just send out one design—test two:
Split your flyers 50/50 (e.g. 1,000 of Version A, 1,000 of Version B)
Include a unique coupon code on each (e.g. “NEAT20” vs “20NE”)
Track which one brings in more leads
That way, you can keep the winner and create new versions to test against it in future rounds.
Two flyer angles that worked in my own business:
“We just cleaned for one of your neighbors” – builds trust and relevance
“5-star hotel cleaning service for your home” – highlights your brand positioning and quality
Each had a different appeal—but both gave people a reason to take action.
And always include:
A clear offer (such as 20% off your first clean)
A sense of urgency (such as limited to the first 50 bookings)
Without tracking, you’re flying blind.
This is how you know what’s giving you an ROI—and what isn’t.
Once you’ve designed your flyers (Canva is perfect for this), you have two options:
Do the distribution yourself – hand them out or get your cleaners to help
Use a local print and delivery service – many flyer printers will also distribute for you
Just make sure they deliver door-to-door, not just stack them in public places.
Choose 1 ZIP code
Design 2 versions in Canva
Add unique coupon codes
Print at least 1,000 of each version
Drop flyers 3 times over 4–6 months
Track results from each version
Keep testing and improving
Flyering won’t get you 50 calls overnight—but it can be a profitable marketing channel if you approach it strategically. Especially if your competitors aren’t doing it well.
